Launched in 2017 as the Secret Sisters project, 100% of your donation goes directly to survivors at highest risk across Greater Houston so they can secure what they need to get safe. Funds are distributed quickly and flexibly, allowing urgent needs to be addressed in real time, from emergency lodging and transportation to legal fees, food, and medicine. You give. Survivors get safe. No barriers.

Your donation goes directly to survivors, removing delays and turning safety plans into immediate, tangible options. Because safety takes time and survivors often need support more than once, consider making your gift monthly or spreading it across the year to provide consistent, reliable support.
Funds help survivors secure what they need – whether that’s a place to stay, food and medical care, transportation, childcare, legal support, or the tools to stay connected and protected. Each decision is made in partnership with a trained advocate and shaped around what safety looks like for each survivor.
Because of you, the HCDVCC Survivor Safety Fund will always be flexible, confidential, and grounded in trust.
Public funding is shrinking at the federal, state, and local levels, as survivor needs are rising. The gap between what survivors need and what systems can provide is growing.
Here’s what survivors are facing:
Since 2021, HCDVCC has led the Harris County Domestic Violence Assistance Fund, administering unrestricted emergency assistance across 20 agencies in Harris County.
Still, public dollars alone cannot meet this moment.
Your donation helps close this gap and ensures survivors have real, immediate options to stay safe and housed.
The Survivor Safety Fund is a growing community fund. Because we must prioritize survivors at highest risk and move quickly, funds are often used right away. We work with trusted local partners to reach survivors and encourage those seeking support to contact the Domestic Violence Hotline or explore local resources.
Survivors, scholars, advocates, and practitioners across the country have made one thing clear: flexible financial assistance works.
Research shows that small, flexible cash assistance improves survivor safety, stability, and long-term outcomes. Survivor-led organizations nationwide continue to demonstrate that when survivors can decide what they need most, they are better able to leave harm and rebuild on their own terms.
Small acts make a big difference. If this work resonates, share it. Building safety happens together, and we’re grateful to have you here.
By making a gift you’ll receive periodic updates about our work.
